Traversing the Noon – Paul Caffrey

Radio St Helier Sylvia Friday

Saturday 11am-1pm

Join Paul as he traverses the noon from 11am.

Three words to describe your show:

Is it over?

About the show

In the first hour up to noon, a review of the Radio St Helier “Most Requested Artist” chart and a track from the current number one, also a track from the selected featured artist of the week on Radio St Helier. A comical item in Comedy Corner is intermittently squeezed into the schedule and a preview of the sport events occurring that day. Also look at some fake showbiz news and true-life anonymous confessions!! In addition to all of this, a varied mix of music from telephoned requests or emails sent into the studio completes the first hour. As we ‘traverse the noon’ and move into the second hour, we travel back in time to feature as many of the songs which peaked at number three in the UK charts in a specific year – close to the top but not close enough – and have a look back at some of the events from the year itself. On occasion, a guest may visit the studio for a chat and/or performance.

Paul’s memorable moment:

In my early years at Radio St Helier, I recall doing a two hour show one Friday night but not realising I had inadvertently knocked the station ‘off-air’. I, in effect, was broadcasting to myself and I can only assure you it was a masterpiece of output lost to the masses!

The first record Paul bought…

“I see a star” by Mouth & McNeal – it was the 1974 Dutch Eurovision entry which finished 3rd behind ABBA.

Claim to fame:

I am a bit of a Eurovision fan (ok – considerably more than a bit) and have been to the contest on several occasions down the years – the most memorable being as part of the Slovenian delegation to the 2017 contest in Kyiv, Ukraine.

Favourite part of being a hospital radio volunteer:

That feeling of making a small contribution towards making a hospital stay just that little bit more bearable and hopefully bringing a smile or two to those listening.

Favourite show on Radio St Helier:

I do listen to many of the other shows on Radio St Helier and enjoy the variety of styles and shows on offer – the eclectic mix you find on Hospital Radio is unique and unlikely to be discovered on other mainstream stations. The 9211 crew on Saturday mornings and Sylvia with S.O.S. and Dave Fisher in the afternoons along with my own modest input leads me to think that you can’t go wrong with the Saturday offerings on Radio St Helier!
