The Country Clinic – Kevin Horkan

RSH-FB-LINK- CountryClinic

Monday 7pm-8pm

Kevin takes you through an hour of the very best country both new and classic

About My Show

My show features country music, both modern and classic – an hour of great country music, ranging from Hank Williams and Patsy Cline right through to modern day country with artists such as Maren Morris and The Zac Brown Band.

Favourite Moment

Back in 2006, when Radio St Helier was broadcasting live on the FM waveband for a month, we had the bright idea of broadcasting my wedding to the whole of Sutton! My lovely wife Briony, who also presents on Radio St Helier, thought it a great idea as well!

The best thing about volunteering at Radio St Helier

I love making a difference to patients, music is a great healer and taking the time to meet someone around the wards can make a real change.

The first record I bought

Since the film Mamma Mia, Abba is now considered respectable to like, so I’m happy to own up that the first record I bought was Chiquitita. I can even remember where, a very small record shop in the arcade by Victoria station.

Claim to fame?

My claims to fame are firstly, somehow people have spent their own hard-earned money to watch me play cricket. Many years ago on a tour to the Isle of Wight, spectators would come and watch the touring sides at Shanklin Cricket Club and pay to enter the ground – it was only 50p! And secondly, I’m first cousins with playwright and filmmaker Martin McDonagh who has made films such as In Bruges and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.

Other than your own, what other show on Radio St Helier do you listen to?

On RSH I love listening to Paul Caffrey as he oversees a relaxing show on a Saturday afternoon. I also love listening to Whispering Bob Harris and his country show on Radio 2.
